At poolside or Starbuck’s,
I watch them lounge,
Who like to look at sunny cityscapes
From under the cool of a large canvas umbrella.
Year after year I draw them.
As I become more compact in size—
5’6” shrunken to 5’1”,
And as arthritis restricts my hand movement
My drawings simplify and compress,
Another form of downsizing
That comes with age.
